THE CHICKEN OR THE EGG?
Ah yes, the proverbial question--which came first . . . but who really cares?
Let’s address a more pertinent question, “Which came first--the thought or the feeling?”
You may wonder why ask such a question? Because, the international pastime for everyone is the continual engagement of reflection on the past and projection of the future--thought.
So, what do feelings have to do with it? Just about everything.
Which did come first? We view ourselves as “thinking” beings--“I think, therefore I am”. This has been our operational paradigm for as long as we can remember (think). But, is it true?
As we move through our day, we are moving through moments of experience, which simultaneously generate corresponding feelings attached to the experience. When we think back upon any given previous moment, we recall, not thoughts, but pictures accompanied with various feelings to which we have attached meaning. We don’t really reflect or project in words, but in picture/feelings. We may then overdub with dialog upon the reflection/projection, but it is not a word/thought dynamic, but a picture/feeling dynamic at play.
We are, primarily, “feeling beings”, preoccupied with both reflecting/projecting picture/feelings into any given moment when we are AWOL from total awareness. Because of our default software of sin/guilt/fear, our “normal” future projection picture/feelings are generally, but not always, fearful in nature. There are, also, many potentially pleasurable projections we may envision that hold for us the promise of something positive.
Why is this important to understand? Because being in touch with your feelings--all of them--will help you begin to discern between that which is TRUE and that which is not. The feelings you have of LOVE/JOY/PEACE are ones that represent the TRUE nature of your BEING. The ones that generate sin/guilt/fear are not. You may be surprised to know that the reflection/projection dynamic does not even represent who you REALLY are. AWARENESS/BEING, your TRUE state, finds no need to reflect/project--it is fully engaged in the NOW where all things ARE.
No chicken/egg--no reflect/project--just BE.
