THE PATTERN OF CHANGE
In both RESISTANCE IS FUTILE and THE
RESONANCE OF TRUTH, we touched upon the concepts of resistance and allowance.
We have, for the most part, failed to recognize both of these patterns at
work in the makeup of who we are. Resistance is based upon survival
(fear), seeing ourselves as vulnerable, thus needing to resist that which we
view as a threat, and to allow that which we deem beneficial. It’s a
full-time job.
The judgments we bring into the moment cause us to resist the moment based upon those judgments. The lens we then use, which calls for a resist/allow decision to be made, is based upon whatever previous evaluations we have made.
Take, for instance, an encounter with a puppy you might have had when you were three years old. This puppy still had sharp “puppy teeth”, loved to chew and gnaw on everything in sight, including your tender little finger. OUCH! It even drew a blood-sample. You now derive an “informed” opinion of the situation, deem all future encounters with dogs dangerous, and thus move “forward” in life.
This is an ongoing process whereby we box in our life experience with such narrow parameters that the world appears to be a very tenuous place. Pain, injury or death must be resisted at all costs--even to the expense of life. So, we downgrade our life to survival-mode, and then complain that all’s not well and nothing is fun. Oh, POOH!
But there is a way of escape from this dreary landscape--a pattern of change that begins to allow EVERYTHING, thus developing a new pattern of lending fresh eyes to each situation.
Where do we begin? . . . with ourselves, of course.
Instead of RESISTING yourself by beating yourself, with yourself, over yourself, when you view yourself as being less than DIVINE, simply ALLOW the whole experience to just flow through you unabated. We are so used to self-flagellation (resistance) that we have forgotten there is an option; simply letting it go--NON-resistance.
This is indeed foreign territory since it is not our standard M.O. Our default software is defensive, not permissive. The tremendous burden we carry from all our “discriminative resistances” has weighed us down until the JOY and wonder has been sucked right out of us.
Our “we know better” attitude has marginalized us to such a degree that we hardly know anything, or even worse. The shedding of baggage will begin to shed new light into places that have been dark for some time.
ALLOW the light to lighten your step and return your smile. It’s actually a lot of fun.
