WE LOVE OUR IDOLS
THE
entire world
is nothing more
than an idol escape
where reverence
is given to things
which deserve
no reverence at all
We
may be under the impression that we are not idol-makers, but every
limitation we have chosen to believe about ourselves represents an idol
of our creation that does not reflect TRUTH.
The
categories of our idol-making are broad and various. They start at the
center, with body-identification, and spread out from there.
Attributing importance to the array of foods and remedies which sustain
the body's existence constitute an almost worshipful countenance. All
the various beliefs which we hold about these alone create enough idols
to fill temples.
We
extend our idol-making into multitudes of externals; relationships,
cars, houses, resumes, achievements and careers. Our social-status and
acceptance of family and peers has seen dutiful effort put forth into
idols of our making. The investment of meaning and value stands
paramount even in the face of TRUTH.
All
limiting thoughts which we hold to be true are held close to the vest.
We protect, nourish and regard them as absolute and inviolable. We
protect the altar on which we have placed them, and pay homage
regularly. The idea of forsaking their worship is rarely ever
considered.
We love the idols we make, even though they may not represent the TRUTH of us.
Perhaps we should consider switching careers, dispense with idol-making, and cleanse our altar with TRUTH.
